While student teaching, I was introduced to Jack Hartmann songs and now I am HOOKED. I LOVE them. I wish I had a lot more money because I would gobble up all of this music without thinking twice about it. They are just that good. He has sooo many awesome songs to help children learn a variety of different things both in general and academically. Just click here to go to his site. He has something for everyone.
One way my cooperating teacher incorporated music was during instruction of the alphabet and their sounds. Each day, from the beginning of the school year, students would sing a song called "Learning Letter Sounds."The kids LOVED singing this song everyday and it helped them to recognize the sounds of each of the letters relatively early on in the school year. I was amazed at how well the students were able to recognize all of the sounds and this song definitely had everything to do with their success.
I was determined to use this song in my classroom someday if I was blessed to be in a Kindergarten classroom. Although I am not in Kindergarten, I still decided to create something to go along with this song, in the instance I end up there someday, and I added it to my TPT store. Click on the picture to take you to this product in my store.
This pack includes full page cards for each letter of the alphabet. One set has just pictures and letters while the other set includes the word that corresponds with the picture. These could be used as your letter line for your room (if you are like me I like to have things match so if we are singing the song everyday then why not have a letter line that reflects it) or as big flashcards for letter/sound fluency.
Also included in this pack are small flashcards to be used however you would like and a poster that consists of all of the letters and pictures. This poster could be passed out as an individual handout for each child's reference and/or you could print it out and have it enlarged for a classroom poster.
If you head over to my store and download the preview file you can grab my alphabet poster/handout for free :)
There are sooo many possibilities with these items. Teachers are creative beings. I am sure you have another idea as you read this.
I hope you can benefit from this pack in some way. Let me know what you think if you purchase it :)

Learning Is Something to Treasure
Thanks Lisa :)
DeleteMy youngest students love this song. We sing it and ABC Disco every day. If I didn't already have a poster, I'd have bought yours. Very cute!

Teaching With Love and Laughter
Thanks Lori :)
DeleteHeidi I just followed your blog. I love your enthusiasm about the song!! Music is such an important part of all classrooms but especially in the early developmental years! I'm going to check out Jack Hartmann's music! When I student taught second grade I did a unit about Hawaii. I used an Hawaiian song about fishing that we acted out.. "throwing our nets out into the sea'. The kids LOVED it (and so did I!!) :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ruth :) I love his music and feel that it is extremely important for early learning. I have updated this post with the actual YouTube video of the song this pack goes along with.
ReplyDeleteHave a great night.
Heidi
I love Jack Hartmann's music! My students are a little too old and "cool" for it now, but if I ever have younger students again I'll be rockin' the Jack Hartmann :) And even though they are too old for his song, they are all still working on letters and letter sounds, so your pack has definitely gone on my wishlist - thanks! It looks great!

I loved using music with my kids when I taught kindergarten! My third graders really like it too, but we don't use music as frequently as I did with my little ones...maybe we should! Congratulations, by the way, on having almost 100 followers (looks like you're at 99)! That's great news...and I have some more GREAT news! You won my giveaway!!
